What are Parent Carer Forums?
When parent carers come together, they can form a forum in their area and this gives them a collective voice at meetings with professionals and practitioners. As representatives of their wider community, they can share experience and feedback from those using the services.
Forums should be open to all parent carers of children and young people 0-25 years and should be parent carer led and pan-disability, representing all sectors of the community and working on issues across all relevant services.
Forums are grouped into regional areas which feed into a national steering group from the National Network of Parent Carer Forums (NNPCF). The NNPCF raises issues at national level and work with the Department of Education on behalf of all forums. More information about the work of the NNPCF can be found here.
Thurrock is part of the Eastern Region and all ten forums in the Eastern Region meet regularly to share experiences and challenges, to take part in training and also to consider how the objectives of the NNPCF should influence regional objectives.
